On Wednesday 12th November, Sir Martyn Oliver, Chief Inspector of Ofsted, visited Trafford and Stockport College Group for a tour of our Stockport College campus.
During his visit, Sir Martyn explored several departments including Engineering, Hair and Beauty Services and English & Maths. He spoke with both students and teachers about upcoming plans for their courses, available opportunities and stand out achievements in each department, alongside watching their skills being put into practice.

Sir Martyn then went on to sit down with a group of students for a roundtable discussion in our Business Centre, focused on their dreams for when the time comes to leave college. A group of five shared their future ambitions, some expressing a passion for subjects including law and public speaking, while others discussed their experiences with UCAS applications, the process of filling them out and how to strengthen them.

During the roundtable chat, Sir Martyn invited student, Hajira Qaiser, who has a passion for public speaking, to attend his upcoming trip to the Association of Colleges Annual Conference in Birmingham, where she was even offered the opportunity to read part of his script on stage.
The visit then finished with a second roundtable, this time, Sir Martyn joined our CEO, educational leaders and representatives to discuss key issues within the sector and explore ways to improve student experiences. He also went on to champion the college group’s T Levels and how they’re working and praised the number of students who have secured employment through Apprenticeships.
James Scott, the Chief Executive Officer at Trafford and Stockport College Group said, “We were delighted to welcome Sir Martyn Oliver to Stockport College. His visit gave him a genuine insight into the outstanding work our staff and students do every day and offered an opportunity for him to meet our incredible young people.
The staff roundtable created valuable connections and enabled a meaningful discussion on best practice in further education, bringing together senior leaders from across the group, representatives from the GMCA, local councils and leaders from colleges and schools across the region.”
The visit was a positive and exciting day for Trafford and Stockport College Group, allowing the opportunity to showcase some of the college group’s fantastic work.
